Art-o-mat® machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. The premise of that art should be more accessible and affordable (art in machines is $5). There are over 200 machines around the world featuring art by talented and hard-working artists. You can find locations for machines on their website. We look for machines whenever we travel and get art from them to mark those special trips, building our collections and supporting the arts community. If you get art from a machine, its nice to tag the artist on Instagram or social media or reach out to them to let them know you have their piece. We always wonder where the art goes...
This is the article from Columbus Underground about one of the two machine in Columbus, Ohio. This is how I found out about Art-o-mat, but it has been around since 1997. I read this and was hooked. I wanted to get involved as an artist. I have four collections with them: WILD, Feeling Blue: Cyanotypes, Teatime, and Wanderlust.
They are always looking for more artists so if you are an artist or know someone who is, let them know about it. Over 300 artists contribute to the Art-o-mat project and it's a chance to have your art all over the country and maybe even all over the world.
