Hi! I’m Amy.

I’m a mixed media artist living and creating in Westerville, Ohio. I'm also an Artomat artist  and a member of the Daylight Artists Collective

What will you do with your one wild and precious life? I spend a lot of mine creating. My favorite thing is when I can be surprised by the world, captured in a unexpected moment, and I try to leave space in my days for noticing experiences and savoring this gift.

What do I make?

I love nature and I’ve been creating art about it for over thirty years. Flowers, animals, birds, insects, plants, leaves: I stop to look at the beauty of this world and I try to capture that in my work. My work is playful, colorful, and a bit dreamy.

I’m a mixed media artist because I love playing with different techniques. I was a batik artist for 3 years, dabbled in quilt making for a while. I spent 5 years as a linoleum printmaker and 2 years obsessed with embroidery in combination with printmaking. I am coming off 15 months exploring silk painting and have just taken up wood burning and acrylic painting. I experiment and I also enjoy making cyanotypes.

I’m a lifelong learner and love to combine different techniques to explore the natural world. Through it all, nature has been my muse.

My history.

I got my BA in Art History from Ohio University, after changing my major from art education, to graphic design, to sculpture, and then to art history. Oh, and I got a plant biology minor and studied three languages. Are you sensing a pattern? I went on to get my MA in Art History from the Art Institute of Chicago, where I did an internship at the Museum of Contemporary Photography and wrote my thesis on contemporary quilt making.

As my day job, I'm the Assistant Director of Research Services at The Ohio State University where I also chair a committee to put on an annual staff art show. I have been married to my best friend for 26 years. We have three fantastic grown kids who and a cat named Louie, who sometimes "helps out" with the artmaking.
